The Hyderabad based Medical Education Research Centre (MEdRC) advocating digital approach to medical education, is aiming to float a virtual health university in the coming next five years.
MEdRC has emerged as a pioneer and thought leader in enabling digitization of healthcare education in the country. So far the company has invested Rs. 30 crore to design, create and provide seamless access to a vast repository of uniform, standardized and peer-reviewed e-content across all areas of healthcare and related medical content in digital format and is planning to invest Rs.30 crore more in the coming days to become a full fledged virtual health university.
Talking to Pharmabiz about the acceptability of the digitized medical content by the universities and regulatory bodies, Dr Neeraj, director MEdRC Edu Tech, said, ?As we have developed the digitized medical content as per prescribed syllabi of the regulatory bodies, it has been approved and recommended by both Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI) as a desired platform to be adopted by all medical and dental colleges across the country. Initially we are pursuing with medical colleges and universities in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to take it as a supplement to the existing teaching which will enable better understanding of the medical subjects by the students.?
MEdRC is also offering online courses to help students, practising professionals as well as general knowledge seekers who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge across diverse and inter-disciplinary life sciences topics.
By roping in about 700 top class teaching faculty across all medical specialties from the country, MEdRC has also video recorded and developed an exhaustive library of digitally archived e-Lectures by ?Master Teachers? encompassing the entire undergraduate medical curriculum and for continuing medical education. A team of doctors and technologists are working together to create multimedia elements that enhance these lecturers.
MEdRC with its excellent medical illustration team, 3D graphics and animation team and the software engineers are all working in coordination to create original medical graphics on various reference diagrams provided by the faculty. Software engineers have developed SmarTeach, a World-Class Teaching and Learning management software with tools to integrate teaching content, distribute it widely, and track learning activities.
?Currently we are looking forward to actively collaborate with various partners to enable our content to be available to every medical, dental, nursing and paramedical students through various channels like e-libraries, personal laptops, over Wi-Fi campuses and even on mobiles and interactive TV. In future, we want to become a virtual health university by effectively implementing digital approach to medical education throughout the country,? said Dr Neeraj.
